The weather has unfortunately been feeling a little autumnal of late, despite it only being August.
Therefore we’ve been thinking about what’s coming up in October, which includes Hospice Care Week.
This is a national campaign week that aims to raise awareness of hospice care and also gives you the chance to take part in a variety of fundraising events during the week with us.
This year the campaign runs from October 5 to 11.
We will be working together with other hospices across the country to raise awareness of hospice care and address the misconceptions that many people have about our work.
When people are referred to us, they are often surprised by how, despite the heartbreak of serious illness, we offer hope and comfort to our patients and everyone around them.
Many people don’t realise that St Barnabas House isn’t just a building; it comes to you wherever you need it by providing care in people’s own homes as well as in the hospice.
Hospices like us receive little government funding, despite the vital work we do.
Therefore, raising awareness of our care services is really important – both so that we can reach the people who need us, and so that, hopefully, generous people will want to support us and we can go on providing end-of-life care.
