Technology Made Easy: Best apps for summer

WITH the summer fast approaching, there are lots of apps you can use to make the most of your holiday adventures, whether you are staying in the UK or going further afield this year.

The Google Field Trip app alerts you to places of interest when you’re out and about, based on your location, writes James Stoner.

It will send you notifications about unique, sometimes-hidden places of interest as you pass them – and if you have a headset or Bluetooth connected, it can even read the information to you.

Restaurant reviews and coupons for discounts show up as you pass by, as well as interesting, historical facts about that place.

A useful app for when you are going abroad is Flight Aware.

This free app is a flight tracker that helps you keep track and watch arrival and departure times of flights in real time.

It will also send you push notifications for times and cancellations.

Another great holiday app is Postagram Postcards, which offers a great way to share emories of your trip.

This app enables you to create thick and glossy photo-postcards, which can be personalised with a photo from your iPhone photo album, Instagram, Facebook or Dropbox, or you can take a picture from within the app. The Postagram will then be posted to an address of your choice so you can keep in touch with loved ones while away.
