TIM DREW: Device helps to secure doors and windows

Crime statistics across the three categories covered by the Worthing Neighbourhood Policing Team's weekly bulletins show that the total number of related offences was 30 across Worthing and Adur during the period from January 25 to February 14.

20 of these crimes were recorded in Worthing, four in Shoreham, three in Sompting, two in Lancing and one in Portslade. Nine of these reported incidents were for burglary, ten for burglary other than from dwellings and 11 for vehicle crime. On at least 12 occasions, force was used to gain access, windows being broken on five occasions. Tools and number plates were targeted most frequently with nothing stolen in six instances.

Meanwhile, Neighbourhood Watch is promoting the “Patlock” device which ensures that door or window mechanisms cannot be opened, even if the locks are snapped or removed. A demonstration on how it works will be available at the Neighbourhood Watch stand at the Hobbies and Leisure Exhibition at the Assembly Hall on Saturday, March 5.

Action Fraud has warned against fraudsters setting up high specification websites advertising various electrical goods and domestic appliances below market price. These fraudsters claim that purchases are covered by the Trusted Shop money-back guarantee – they are not, and the goods do not exist.
