TIM DREW: How and why to register watch schemes online

On May 25, the EU General Data Protection Regulations come into force, with significant implications for Neighbourhood Watch.

Paper records of your members’ details must be kept safe and we are asking all Worthing coordinators to encourage their members to register online at worthingnhw.ourwatch.org.uk which is compliant with the new regulations and eradicates the need for many of your paper records.

Where a coordinator is unable to persuade existing members to register online or needs to keep records of members with no internet access, we recommend that only essential data is kept – first names, surnames, address, post code, telephone number and email address, where applicable.

Please ensure that your records remain accurate, up to date, confidential and secure at all times, and report any data loss within 72 hours to our administration team at worthingnhw@gmail.com.

Your members’ direct registration on the neighbourhood alert database not only ensures compliance with the new regulations, but also means that they will have the benefit of direct, regular updates from Worthing Police and Neighbourhood Watch, with the ability to receive further information from accredited providers if desired. Registered members are also directly contactable by emergency services in the event of a major incident in the area.

Once registered online, you will be able to review your list of members by logging onto your account at ourwatchmember.org.uk.

If you have not yet logged into your account please login today, at the above web address, using the forgotten password link if necessary and familiarise yourself with an extensive scheme administration package.

When you login online, the scheme administration options will enable you to edit your scheme details, check your scheme membership, approve new applicants, or even invite others to join your scheme.
