USwitch has warned against cars being stolen from driveways after being left unattended with the engine running, to de-ice the vehicle during the current cold spell. Most insurers will not pay out should this happen if the keys have been left in the ignition.

Meanwhile, Action Fraud has been receiving reports of an advanced fee fraud whereby swindlers telephone individuals, claiming to be calling on behalf of the UK (or British) Government Grant Department.

They go on to state that the individual has won a Good Citizen Award – typically £8,000 – and that the grant can be released for a fee of around £210.

Fortunately, very few members of the public have lost any money as a result of this scam so far.

There is no genuine ‘Good Citizen Award’ scheme in the UK that operates by cold calling “winners” and asking for an upfront fee to release a grant.

If you receive a call that claims to represent such a scheme, it is a scam.

End the phone call and do not give out any personal or financial data.

• On Tuesday two neighbourhood panel meetings will take place – a joint meeting of the Durrington, Northbrook and Salvington neighbourhood panels at the Jubilee Hall, Greenland Road New Life Church, Salvington Road, between 7pm and 8pm; and the Tarring Community Forum at the West Worthing Baptist Church, South Street, Tarring, also between 7pm and 8pm.
