Walking along Poo Street

IN your last edition of The Herald, Pauline Stone commented on dogs mess and how no-one appears to care. Well, as a local councillor, I care very much.

The collection and disposal of dog mess costs the council and must be budgeted for in the local council tax. Thus it is a cost to every household.

Even though the vast majority of dog owners are responsible people and costs are kept to a minimum, not every household has a dog.

So how do those households who do not own a dog feel about contributing to the cost of disposal?

The dog mess is disposed of in a deep landfill site.

The budget for the department responsible for this matter is over 50k per year.

If more dog bins are provided or more demands are placed on the department, costs generally increase, thus up goes your and my council tax.

I would be interested to know how the local council tax payer views this.
