We are also holding a Rotary Youth Speaks competition, designed to support and encourage the development of effective communication skills in young people.

| Also in the news – the Met Office has issued a ‘yellow warning’ for wind; the former member of chart-topping 80s boy band Curiosity Killed the Cat has started work as a holistic therapist in Worthing after years spent living as a Buddhist monk in Thailand; and West Sussex NHS staff question first parking fees increase in a decade |

The competition is open to all schools and college communities including those that are home educated and any other young people’s organisations, for example Scout groups and Girl Guides.

Each team will have three students in full time education in two age groups: intermediate, which is 11 to 13 years, and senior, which is 14 to 17 years.

Each team member takes on one of three roles: chairperson, speaker and vote of thanks.

There will be an allocated time in which to perform their role and the speaker may talk about a subject of their own choice.

The local round will be held in late November and the winners will go forward to the district round followed by an area round and a national final.

A cup will be presented to the winning teams and prizes given to all the winning team members. Email [email protected] if you know of any group interested in entering the competition.
