Opposition to pub's longer hours

South Broadwater Residents Association, Worthing believes a pub's plans to extend its opening hours will encourage anti-social behaviour.

Owners of the Globe Inn, Newlands Road who describe it as a 'small community local' want to open until 1am every day except Sunday as well providing entertainment on a Saturday.

But the 1,500-strong residents association believes the new hours will result in increased levels of crime and disorder in the early mornings.

Tim Nicholls, on behalf of the association said: "It is our view that for the premises to open effectively until 1am every day of the week excepting Monday morning is excessive. Given the premises location it is highly likely to worsen the potential for crime and disorder in the early hours of the morning as well as noise and public nuisance."

Residents say that there would be no public transport to take people home at night and that although taxi facilities are situated near to the railway station, they would be limited because of an existing late'“opening club adjacent to it.
