Organisations rally to fundraise for Macmillan

CHARITIES, businesses, and organisations across West Sussex are getting ready to pop the kettle on to take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

To help fundraise for the charity, and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the event this year, several local teams will be hosting events on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26.  

One of the businesses taking part in the fundraising event, The Body Clinic Salon in Felpham Village, will be hosting a coffee morning between 10 am and 12pm on September 25. Jo Rea, manager of The Body Clinic Salons said “I have also managed to get my two neighbouring shops to run the event too on the same day, and they are ‘Out on the Floor’ and ‘Dapper Dogs’. Between the three shops, it should be a really lively event and hopefully raise some money for Cancer Support.”

An array of tasty treats will also be available at Sanctuary Supported Living’s Arun Resettlement Service in Bognor Regis. From 9am to 12noon on September 25, tenants of the supported living scheme are inviting the community to join in by purchasing tea, coffee, and homemade cakes in support of Macmillan.

Builders at the Barratt Homes developments in Chichester will also be taking part on September 26. After setting up coffee mornings at Canal Walk at Southfield Close and Sandpiper Walk at Church Road, staff will invite members of the public to attend and make donations towards Macmillan. Between 10am and 5.30pm, hot drinks and cakes will be available.

For tasty treats and musical entertainment, Church Farm on Old Park Lane in Bosham is offering a variety of activities on September 25 from 10am to 12.30pm. There will be stalls, produce, games, tombola, children’s corner, plants, hats and handbags, cakes, books, a raffle and silent auctions.

Chichester’s Pallant House Gallery will be hosting its Macmillan Coffee Morning on September 25 between 10am and 12pm. Sarah Jackson, communications officer at the gallery, said: “In keeping with the subject of our Sickert in Dieppe exhibition, the morning will be French themed with tea, coffee and cakes.”

Envy Hair Salon in Midhurst will be hosting its Macmillan Coffee Morning on September 25 from 10am to 7pm. There will also be someone available from 10am to 2pm for a nail file and polish from £5 with all proceeds going to Macmillan.

There will be cakes and home grown produce for sale in support of Macmillan at the Leconfield Hall in Petworth on September 25. Between 9am and 12pm, there will also be a raffle, tombola and refreshments.

David Wilson Homes will be supporting Macmillan’s Biggest Coffee Morning at its Williams Gate development in Bognor Regis, and its Swanbourne Park development in Littlehampton on September 26 from 10am to 5.30pm. Michelle Store, sales director at David Wilson Homes, said: “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning has captured the imagination of everyone within David Wilson Homes. Our sales teams are all keen to host events for visitors and those who have already moved into our developments at Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.”

Also in Littlehampton, Clarified Extensions and Beauty will be hosting a coffee morning between 12noon and 2pm to support Macmillan on September 25. In addition to selling cakes for £3, which includes unlimited tea and coffee, there will also be a raffle with prizes.

Worthing’s Marks and Spencer store will be invitng shoppers and the local community to join in its celebrations. Staff will don green tutus while serving up coffee and cake, and a Cafe colouring competition will also take place. Gary Fitzharris, store manager at M&S Worthing, said: “We hope this year will be our most successful yet, especially as it marks the 25th anniversary of World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. The countdown is on and we’ve got lots planned to raise vital funds for this very worthy cause. We look forward to welcoming people through our doors on September 25 for what promises to be a fun filled day!”

The team at Argos in Worthing will also be stirring up support on September 25, swapping their tills for baking trays to support Macmillan. From 9am, colleagues will be selling cakes and hosting a ‘guess the weight of the jar’ competition. Kirsty Reilly, the store’s Sales Op Team Leader and organiser of the event, said: “We are really looking forward to inviting local people into the story for our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support, and I can’t wait to see all the fantastic cakes and treats that my colleagues have baked for the day! All the money we raise through the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning will help fund hours of care from Macmillan nurses, and as my auntie has recently had a mastectomy and is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, it is a cause incredibly close to my heart.”

Caring Homes is supporting Macmillan with coffee mornings at a variety of Sussex locations on September 25. Claydon House in Lewes will be holding a cake baking contest which will be judged at 2pm by a resident, head chef and deputy home manager. Between 10am and 12pm, volunteers will also be helping with a coffee, tea and cakes event with music at Heffle Court in Heathfield. Rectory House in Sompting will also be hold a coffee morning and cake sale from 10.30am to 12pm.

Pitman Training’s centre at Longley House in Crawley will be joining in with Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning with a ‘Worklife for Mums’ drop in centre on September 25. Running from 8am til 12noon, a light breakfast will be provided and mums are invited to come and share a bite to eat, and some tips and advice for each other on returning to work after having a baby and progressing your career alongside being a mum. Centre manager Tony Christian and his team will also beon hand offering free CV and career advice for the office sector and a free skills analysis to help people establish their current skills level in things like typing and MS Office. As a parting gift all attendees will also receive a free ‘Social Media Strategy for Business’ course module, to try at home. Voluntary donations will be collected in support of Macmillan Cancer. In Cranleigh, Little Manor Service Station on High Street will be holding a take away Macmillan coffee morning on September 25. Bob Melvin, general manager, said: “We don’t have space for a sit down break but many of our customers who buy our freshly ground coffee drinks to take away also buy snacks. The chance of a freshly baked cake has to be quite a temptation.” 
Four women who beat breast cancer are holding a coffee morning to help raise money for Macmillan on Thursday, October 1. They will be hosting their event at Sedgwick House between 9.30am and 1pm, and costs a donation of £5.
