A TRAGIC car accident led to a bittersweet ending when an orphaned newborn kitten was adopted by a surrogate mum.
Earlier this month, Paws Animal Sanctuary, in Findon took in a stray pregnant cat, which gave birth to five kittens.
he same night another pregnant cat was killed in a road accident.
Stacey McSpirit, who runs PAWS, said: “A member of the public found the cat lying at the side of the road and took it into Grove Lodge Vets.
“They realised the cat was pregnant and did a caesarean and the cat had five kittens inside her but only two were alive.
“Sadly, only one survived.”
The owner of the dead cat, Lynzie Gillingham, was traced through the animal’s microchip.
On Sunday, August 21, Lynzie took the surviving kitten to Paws where Stacey then managed to sneak the orphaned kitten in with the newborn kittens.
Lynzie, of Eton Road, said: “It’s very bittersweet.
“We’re sad to have lost Patch and her other kittens, but the surviving kitten is just like her mum so we are very grateful to the person who took her to the vets – they managed to save one little life.”
