Insp John Merrick, of Bognor's police station, said the black Saab car in which they were travelling was identified by the automatic number plate recognition camera on the A259 in Felpham on Monday. Officers located the car in the following hours and ensured its occupants were safe and well.

'This again shows the usefulness of the ANPR cameras as an investigative tool which has helped to resolve an inquiry involving several police forces.

'Without the use of ANPR, this vehicle may not have been located so quickly. Intensive police inquiries would have continued until the pair were located by other means,' he stated.

The pair disappeared from Ipswich on Sunday. Suffolk detectives launched a missing persons' inquiry. Krystal was seen at around 9.30am that day when she left an address in Ipswich to return home.
