PAUL O'BRIEN: Onwards and upwards for Worthing's theatres

Well after a week that included one of the most stressful, bickering and country-splitting decisions we have ever made, in regards to Brexit, what better way to come together than over laughter '“ at one of the best shows at Worthing theatres so far this year.

The team behind the venues has, over the past few years, transformed the offering for customers and we now welcome some of the country’s greatest comedy acts to our sunny town.

Huge household names will be performing in the coming months, including Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican, Russel Kane, Omid Djalili, Rob Beckett and Henning When.

A few years back Worthing’s offering and theatre costs were spiralling out of control and, like many in the town, we feared for their future. However, with hard work and new management the venues have been turned around.

The theatres and other venues now welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, many of whom spend the day in our town before shopping or book a meal and drinks afterwards, all of which benefits our local businesses hugely.

Not only do we have the comedy acts but the theatres have put on a fantastic ‘Summer of Circus’ programme (you can pick up a brochure in our shop) with shows, workshops and much more.

There are even free performances outside the Pavilion and some great local groups as well as international acts are involved.

After many years of decline we have seen a rapid rise in our theatres and let’s hope this continues onwards and upwards!
