Pavilion to host volunteers' forum

BEXHILL is to be the focus for celebrating National Volunteers' Week in East Sussex, with a special event at the De La Warr Pavilion showcasing work done by many voluntary organisations in the county.

Open from 1.30pm until 5pm this Saturday (June 4), the event is being organised by Volunteer Centre East Sussex.

Sarah Hodgetts, county volunteering development co-ordinator, said: “Volunteering has huge benefits and anyone can get involved, no matter what their age, background or interest.

“It’s important we take advantage of opportunities like this to inspire others to get involved.”

During the event at the DLWP, representatives from various groups will be on hand to answer questions and supply information about what they do.

Among them will be East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service which, for instance, relies on volunteers to help attend community events to talk to people about free home safety visits, supporting staff at fire station open days or acting as role players at training activities.

Anyone unable to attend next month’s free event can visit drop-in sessions being offered by the mobile library service between June 1 and 7.
