The Share the Warmth scheme ensures that hot or cold drinks are donated to people in need.

The Culture team all donated £1.50 to start the Share the Warmth scheme at The Denton café and bar adjacent to the Pavilion Theatre.

The scheme, which currently has 14 other shops enrolled across the town, encourages people to purchase a ‘suspended’ drink which is put ‘on hold’ until somebody needs to claim the hot or cold beverage.

When a person purchases a suspended coffee three marbles are placed in a jar.

Later, when a person wishes to claim a suspended drink, they may check the number of marbles in the Share the Warmth jar and redeem one for a hot or cold drink.

Housing outreach coordinator Chris Harris says: “It’s great to see a council-run venue embracing the Share the Warmth scheme which has proved so popular across the town.

“Everyone needs a little help at some point and this scheme really has the community at its heart.”

The scheme is loosely based on the suspended coffee or the ‘pay it forward’ concept.
