The restaurant provided meals for over a dozen elderly people and franchise owner Charlie Bhangal plans to do the same on a regular basis.

He said: “Wimpy Worthing recognises the contribution that older people have made to society and this is our way of thanking them”

Mr Bhangal said there was not enough respect for the elderly and it was great to be able to do something positive for the community.

Manager Nick Egan came up with the idea last year and the first free meal was served to the senior citizens in May.

General Manager of Abbeyfield said: “The staff have been lovely and our residents, some of whom are in their 90s, have had a lovely time.

“Although lunch is provided every day it is always a treat to go out to somewhere different.”
