Bognor Regis rallies to ensure seafront is lit up this summer

A public appeal to raise £4,246 to meet a funding gap for this summer’s illuminations along Bognor Regis seafront has reached its target – less than two months after being launched.

Two large donations from B5 Ltd and West Sussex County Council, of £2,000 and £1,811 respectively, plus a raft of other contributions ranging from £5 to £100, has helped fill the gap caused by the cancellation of the lights’ usual fund-raising events including the crowd-pulling August Bank Holiday Illuminations Gala.

Jason Passingham, chairman of the all-volunteer group Bognor Regis Seafront Lights, thanked the community for ‘rallying to keep Bognor shining bright’.

He said: “To raise this amount in such a short time, and at a time when there are so many other very good causes making similar appeals, is heartening.

“It really demonstrates once again that community spirit is alive and well in the town.

“We have also received several further donations offline; by way of cash, cheques and BACS payments that we couldn’t easily add into the crowd-funding page so the final total is likely to be much higher.

“In the meantime we will keep the Spacehive Appeal open until the end of September in case anyone still wants to give.”
