Coronavirus: Update on Eastbourne Bandstand events

Eastbourne Bandstand is likely to be closed until at least August, according to an update from Eastbourne council.

The seafront landmark, along with other venues, was closed to the public from mid-March and a string of events due take place there were cancelled.

The list includes all the tribute act events in April, May, June and July, all Central Band of The Royal British Legion August concerts and Airshow seating in August.

In addition all private bookings at the Redoubt up until the end of June have been cancelled along with events in April, May, June and July.

A spokesperson at the council, which runs the seafront venues, said, “It has been a difficult start to the year but we are now hopeful that we have started the journey out to the other side of this pandemic, however it may be some time before things are back to normal.

“Many of our colleagues have been furloughed and remain so, which means we are operating with just a skeleton staff.

“All the events at the Bandstand up to the end of July have been cancelled, along with the Central Band Concerts and the Eastbourne Airshow in August.

“We are very grateful to everyone who has responded to our emails and donated the cost of their refunded tickets to our beloved Bandstand.

“We are closely following the ever-changing government guidance as we determine whether we can still host some of the events in our programme this year.”
