Louise Sandiford, who lives on Shoreham Beach, was out walking her dog at around 12.30pm when she came across the dead animal on the seafront near the Church of the Good Shepherd.

She said: “It was massive, at least a metre and a half.

“All its skin had been pulled off and it had all these gashes all over it.

“It had a rope tied around its tail.

“It was really sad.”

She confirmed that she had alerted the Coastguard.

A spokesman for Adur District Council said the British Divers Marine Life Rescue was intending to investigate the case further.
