Emergency services dealing with major incident in Crawley: in pictures

Emergency services have declared a significant gas leak in Crawley as a ‘major incident’ after 700 people were evacuated from a block of flats.

The leak was reported at a large block of flats in Milton Mount Avenue, Crawley, at around 12.21am on Wednesday (January 6) and it has since been declared a major incident, police said. Sussex Police are working with partners including West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, South East Coast Ambulance Service, West Sussex County Council, Crawley Borough Council and Southern Gas to resolve the incident. Approximately 700 residents have been evacuated and placed in temporary accommodation until the scene is made safe, police have confirmed. A police spokesman said no injuries have been reported.
