Drivers were stuck in long queues as thousands of people made their way to the Festival of Speed.
The world-famous car festival at the Goodwood estate began today and from around 9am traffic on the A27 was queuing all the way back to Emsworth.
Police said no accidents had been reported and the queues were down to sheer weight of traffic.
A spokeswoman for West Sussex highways department said they have been urging people to leave early and leave plenty of time to make their way in.
She added: ‘We do always encourage people to allow more time for their journeys and to expect delays, particularly around the Chichester area.’
There are diversions in place around the estate for the four-day event.
