How a Lancing woman’s anxiety led her launching an aromatherapy range

But it was while on an Ayurvedic retreat in Kerala with her partner that led her to launch Made by Coopers.

“We had loads of weird and wonderful treatments and when I got back I decided I wanted to do something for me,” she says.

“I started reading books about aromatherapy and looking at what blends go together.

“I wanted something for your moods and emotions.”

The ranges fall under different categories – balancing, energising, invigorating, uplifting, calming, restoring, purifying.

The most popular items Clare reveals is the ‘Sleepy Head’ range.

Its aim is to help you fall asleep and includes lavender and Frankincense.

The range features a room spray, candles, an oil and body balm with hemp oil and shea butter.

“We started with candles but then it grew to include room sprays.

“We have since added a number of different products from face oils to body scrubs, cleansers and eye pillows.”

The first products took Clare six weeks to develop with all the core scents created in that time.

Made by Coopers Apothecary was officially launched in July 2016.

“We draw from the Ayurvedic philosophy to treat your body as a whole and we believe that to nourish the skin is to nourish the mind.

“We want to help balance people’s moods.”

The products only use natural, organic and clean ingredients.

Each one is nutrient rich in plant oils, therapeutic grade essential oils, flower hydrolats and botanical actives.

All products are always 100 per cent free from: parabens, SLS’s, mineral oil, palm oil, sulfates, artificial colours and synthetic fragrances.

It is also vegan friendly and cruelty-free.

On choosing what to create it was very easy for Lancing resident Clare.

She says: “A lot of the products are ones I would want myself.

“The purify I have always purified my home with sage so decided to do a room spray with sage, rosemary, oregano and lemon but it took a while to get it right so it didn’t smell like a roast.

“It has been a learning curve, I didn’t go to university and do business degree this is my degree.”
