Lancing’s Nautical Training Corps’ success

The TS Intrepid marching band from Lancing took part in the Nautical Training Corps’ 43rd national band, colour, and fanfare competition on Sunday, October 30, and returned home triumphant.

The band takes part in the event, held in Burgess Hill, every year but this year was the cadets’ best result yet.

This week, third officer Tyler Buckham, the band master, said she was very proud of the cadets winning the contest class and praised them for the hard work they put into rehearsing.

She said: “They all worked so hard. It is just outstanding and I am so pleased.

“We have gone from the bottom of this class and progressed all the way up.”

The band won the contest class with their multi-award winning nine-and-a-half minute routine. Prizes they took home included the Commodore’s Encouragement Trophy as well as winning prizes for the best dressed and turned out band, best display and showmanship, best percussion section, best wind section, and best mallet section.

TS Intrepid meets in the North Road Youth Centre, in North Road, Lancing every Monday but in the run-up to the competition the band put in extra hours, meeting up at Chesswood Middle School, in Worthing, to practise.
