The aim was to help those living at Nightingale Nursing Home, in Beach Road, to keep in touch with their loved ones during the coronavirus lockdown.

Manager Tracey Searle said the home was looking forward to welcoming back visitors as soon as possible but in the meantime, they were having to find other ways for people to keep in touch.

She said: “During the lockdown, we have been very conscious of our residents missing their loved ones and the importance of being able to see them.

“We had already offered the use of our mobile phones to enable face time, with good results, however decided that an iPad would be even better, and it would also provide many other benefits as well.

“Three of our care staff, Yana Roger, Tegan Shield, and Ellie May Johnson, decided to raise money by doing a sponsored bike ride, which raised enough to buy two iPads. They came up with the idea and as the manager, I cannot thank them enough.

“It has been lovely to see the many benefits already, including games, music and selfies.”
