The Littlehampton crew has launched a number of times during lockdown to assist those in trouble in local waters, including a fishing vessel with engine problems, a kayaker in difficulties and a yacht that had lost its mast.

The yellow-themed Mayday campaign helps fund vital kit for RNLI lifeboat crews so they can save lives at sea, including lifejackets at £458, helmets at £263, seagoing gloves at £25, or a full inshore lifeboat crew member kit at £1,836.

Hannah Presgrave, RNLI community manager and a volunteer crew member at Littlehampton RNLI, said: “Our Mayday fundraising campaign is a vital event in the RNLI calendar and, given the current situation, it is more important than ever.

“During lockdown, the crew at Littlehampton RNLI have still been responding to their pagers and we’ve remained on-call 24/7.

“Although we can’t meet up for fundraising events in person, we can all get together online to help raise vital funds for crew kit. We hope everyone will enjoy taking part.”
