The 5th Littlehampton Sea Scout Group counts itself lucky to have ex-servicemen among the leadership team, and some of the children have parents who are, or were, in active service.

The group, based at Gordon Hall in Wick, usually takes part in the town’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service but with that out of the window this year, it has created its own act of remembrance, with several generations joining together to commemorate our fallen heroes.

More than 60 children and leaders have taken part in the virtual video event, which will be broadcast on Remembrance Sunday.

Kester Riley, group Scout leader, said: “As another lockdown kicks in across the nation, it is of utmost importance to still commemorate this day.

“It is only right to acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country and acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought hard to achieve.

“It’s been a year like no other, when generations were separated by lockdown rules, yet brought together by the nation, from children painting rainbows to applauding key workers to Sir Tom Moore raising money for the NHS.

“The 5th Littlehampton Sea Scouts will not let this day pass without acknowledgement and this is another example of generations coming together in an act of remembrance.”

Kester said Remembrance Sunday was a parade that was very important within the Scouting diary.

The group’s Remembrance Sunday broadcast will be at 10.55am on Sunday, November 8. Find 5TH LITTLEHAMPTON SEA SCOUT GROUP Remembrance Sunday – 8th November 2020 on YouTube.
