Forty family members and special neighbours attended a party at the St Mary’s Care Home, Westbrooke, Worthing, on Sunday, July 21.

Peggy’s daughter, Joan Wand, 83, of Mersham Gardens, Goring-by-Sea, said: “She’s always been very lucky with her neighbours I think because she’s always been nice to them. She’s got a really nice disposition.

“St Mary’s is a very nice home and they are affectionate with her.”

Chris Woods, manager of the St Mary’s Care Home, said: “Peggy is able to enjoy life in the comfort of the home, pottering around talking to staff and other residents.”

Joan said that Peggy was a country girl and her granddad had a small holding at Worthy Down where they used to exercise horses, which Peggy loved.

She said she was hooked on show jumping and used to follow horses on TV, and although she didn’t bet she always picked the winners.
