Popular Midhurst pianos are re-homed

One of the popular highlights of the MADhurst Festival is the placement of decorated pavement pianos for the public to use.

Two pianos were placed around the town this year. One was designed and painted by artist Chloe Dowsett of CD Designs, and the other, a collaborative effort spearheaded by local artist Jeanette Sutton.

It has been positioned outside the local Budgen’s supermarket through summer and autumn and it said to have been a popular feature.

But as the temperature starts to drop, the piano is set to be re-homed.

A MADhurst spokesperson said: “We were thrilled that Jeanette was able to organise this project for us again this year. All her work is always very imaginative and of the highest quality.

"We were delighted that she was able to bring on board local design student Bethany Procter, and craft enthusiast, Kayleigh Collyer. The result was amazing, transforming a dark old fashioned piece of furniture into a contemporary looking instrument that can be enjoyed in its new home.”

Jeanette said: “The brief was to use the MADhurst theme of 'birds and bees' as the inspiration and create something colourful for the town.

"It brought to my mind the work of Kev Munday which is fun, colourful and perfect for a community project.

"It took the three of us over 40 hours to design and paint, and is covered with over 70 individual birds and mini beasts — each individually crafted.

"I am so thrilled that it has a new home and will now have a second lease of life”

The piano has been donated to the Midhurst Rother College for the student canteen to be enjoyed by the students in their free time.
