The Royal Family announced the Duke of Edinburgh passed away this morning (April 9) at Windsor Castle, at the age of 99.

Worthing Fire Station has joined public buildings across West Sussex in lowering its flag in the traditional mark of respect.

Station commander Roy Barraclough lowered Worthing's flag to half mast this afternoon.

In a tweet at around 1.30pm, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service joins the nation in mourning the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. Flags on our buildings around the county have been lowered to half-mast."

Prince Philip had recently been treated in hospital for a heart condition, but was sent home on March 16.
