Remembering Dame Vera Lynn in pictures

Dame Vera Lynn was a well-known member of the Ditchling community where she lived for a number of years.

The Forces’ Sweetheart and national treasure who has sadly died at the age of 103 was a regular visitor to garden parties and fetes in the village and previously recalled the wonderful community spirit. And Dame Vera was a regular supporter of events and good causes across Sussex. Helping the least fortunate, most vulnerable and most in need of a friend was at the heart of what she did. She carried out extensive charity work in Sussex, helping children with cerebral palsy. Her children’s charity – the Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity – transformed the lives of countless young people first through its School for Parents based at Ingfield Manor School at Five Oaks near Billingshurst and subsequently when it provided services elsewhere in the county. We have put together a collection of photographs showing some of the amazing events in Sussex she supported over the years.
