Spiderman with a cherry picker tours Worthing, Rustington and Angmering

Spiderman has done a tour of Worthing, Rustington and Angmering - but instead of swinging on his trusty webs he has opted for a cherry picker as his mode of transport.

When his company was forced to stop working due to the lockdown, Alan Harwood from Lewes ordered himself a Spiderman outfit and decided to raise money for the NHS and use one of his superhero-emblazoned cherry pickers to bring a smile to the faces of families stuck at home in high-rise flats in Brighton. Jasmin Austin got wind of his exploits and asked him to do a 12-stop tour of her neck of the woods in Worthing, Rustington and Angmering on Wednesday (April 29): starting in Guildford Road in Rustington at 9am and incorporating West Park School in Marlborough Road, Worthing. The 29-year-old said: "I think everyone's getting a bit tired of the day to day lockdown routine, but for 20 minutes outside the house there was something different to see. The response was amazing." In Guildford Road, children posed for socially distant photos with their friendly neighbourhood hero and he collected donations for the NHS using a bucket on a long stick that he could dangle into people's front gardens. The day before happened to be National Superhero Day, so children at West Park were taught about their local heroes, such as NHS workers, before being surprised with a quick visit from Spiderman.
