Sussex Police 'devastated' by death of popular PC

Sussex Police have paid tribute to a 'well respected' constable who died this week.

PC Doug Franks was described as a 'larger than life character' who was devoted to his son, job and colleagues.

Sussex Police Federation said it was 'devastated' to announce the loss of a 'popular colleague'.

The federation said it would not be releasing any more details at this time.

Daren Egan, Chairman of Sussex Police Federation, said “I know many of Doug’s colleagues will be utterly devastated - and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this terrible time.

"Doug was a larger than life character who was devoted to his son, job and colleagues. He was well respected and loved within the police family.

“The Federation are supporting colleagues as best we can at the moment and would encourage anyone in need of assistance or help to please let us know.”

The federation said its 'thoughts are with Doug’s family, friends and close colleagues'.

Sussex Police Chief Constable Jo Shiner said it had been a very sad week for the force following PC Frank's death and the passing of Sean Preston, a custody sergeant at Worthing.

Chief Constable Shiner said: "It has been a very sad week for Sussex Police with the passing of two of our police family.

"Our thoughts go to their families, friends and colleagues. I would like to personally thank everyone who has offered support and condolences to the amazing people in our force. Thank you."
