The agreement strengthens the partnership between Littlehampton United Church and the homelessness charity.

Littlehampton Community Hub is run from the church hall, in High Street, and although the building is currently closed due to the coronavirus, hot food and drinks are being distributed.

Nigel Stapley, lettings secretary at Littlehampton United Church, said: “Turning Tides have been running a drop-in hub for homeless men and women at the church for more than five years and during that time, have responded to an increasing demand for their services in the area.

“To enable the charity to develop their provision for homeless people, the United Reformed Southern Synod, the owners of the buildings, the United Church and Turning Tides have successfully agreed a long-term lease on the main hall and the house at 2 Arundel Road, which is part of the church buildings.”

The three organisations involved had been working on an agreement for the past 12 months and were pleased to announcing a strengthening of the relationship.

The facilities will enable Turning Tides to offer a wider range of support for homeless people, including some temporary accommodation.

The main hall will also continue to be a community hub for the wider Littlehampton community and will still be used by the many varied groups which have met there in the past.

Nigel added: “Both Turning Tides and the United Church look forward to this new relationship enhancing the much-needed support to vulnerable men and women in these difficult times.”
