According to West Sussex County Council, Chapel Road and Broadwater Street West are showing signs of ‘significant weakening’ and will be given new surfaces.

Chapel Road is scheduled to be resurfaced, between North Street and South Street, from February 22 to March 3.

Work on Broadwater Street West will take place between Ardsheal Road and the A27, Grove Lodge roundabout – including the junction with Cissbury Road, from March 2 to March 16.

Both roads will be closed to all through-traffic overnight, with hours of work between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.

Vehicles will be diverted around the works.

A council spokesman said the new surfaces will be smoother, which will reduce road noise, and be more resilient to potholes.

The spokesman said: “We don’t decide to carry out night-time resurfacing lightly. Work of this nature does cause disruption for both residents and businesses, for which we apologise.

“We have taken into account the wider disruption to the public that would be caused through daytime work on these busy roads.

“Every effort will be made to try to minimise the inconvenience: for example, our contractor will try its best to carry out the noisiest operations in the earliest part of the evening and before 11pm.”

Shops and other businesses will be able to open as normal.
