A society member has created a montage of previous Littlehampton bonfire nights and this will be available to watch on YouTube from 7pm on Saturday, October 31.

Sue Baker, society spokesman, invited viewers to ‘consider making a donation in support of the society’, with details on their website.

“Any donations will go into society funds to help us to continue to plan for Bonfire 2021,” she said.

Commander in chief elect Barry Bastable thanked the town for its support. He said: “Our society is still very much an active one; myself and the committee will begin plans for 2021’s event very soon.”

Members will be in costume at their market stall on Saturday to find new members. Barry added that rubbish left at the usual bonfire site, by the East Green car park, this year would be considered fly-tipping.

Here is his message in full:

“Firstly, I would like to thank the public of Littlehampton and the surrounding areas, including our members for their continued support towards our society. I for one am very sad that myself and the committee are unable to hold one of the towns biggest events for 2020. But given the unpredicted circumstances we feel your safety is paramount.

I’d just like to emphasise that our society is still very much an active one, myself and the committee will begin plans for 2021’s event very soon.

“Some of our bonfire members will be out in costume on our market stall on Saturday the 31st October including a musical organ in the town, please come and say hello.

“We would be happy to discuss future plans for the event and advise on how you could join us in 2021 and become a member. We would love to have new members in our society, more information and photos can be found on our website.”
