Here is a list of places that are a short walk or drive away for some good views, picnic spots, hiking and running areas for friends, families, or a solo adventurer. Some places on this list, like the Angmering Park Estate, have private areas but these are always signposted.
5. Kithurst Hill
To the right of Whiteways Lodge Roundabout is the scenic B2139, a nice road to drive on and it offers great views. There is actually a lay-by that you can park in and see some beautiful views but further down the road, before you reach Storrington, is a lane that leads to Kithurst Hill car park. This is a narrow and steep track so drive carefully. At the top are many footpaths but either way are stunning views of the coastline and the towns on the beach front, or looking north is an amazing view looking over a huge area. On clear days you can see the North Downs, Pulborough and make out various hills that are close by like Glatting Beacon.
6. Poling
One of the closest areas to escape to some countryside is accessible at the back of the Oliver Acre estate. Where Toddington Lane curves to the left, there is a right turn, ideal for parking. Be wary of building site traffic due to land being cleared for the North Littlehampton development. A beaten footpath leads through metal fencing but eventually you will come to a bridge that crosses over Black Ditch. As you follow the path, fields appear out of nowhere and eventually you will come to a split in the path, the right lead to Poling village and the left taking you to the A284. However, if you take the left you will see a footpath sign that leads through the middle of a huge field. As you follow the footpaths round, you will walk past chicken farms, possibly see some deer and be transported to the countryside. Eventually the paths will loop back to the A284.

8. West Beach and Climping Beach
West Beach is a beautiful spot with many sand dunes that are great to look at. There are also remains of a 19th century fort right next to the trail, which is an interesting feature for avid history buffs in the area. When walking up the trail over the dunes, a great view of Littlehampton’s seafront and riverside is available and this is very picturesque at sunset. There is parking here, too, but it does cost a small fee. Climping Beach is just up the road from West Beach and is very popular in the summer. This is a good quality beach and is very family friendly.
