Worthing adapted cycling project to expand its fleet

The charity CYCALL, based at Brooklands Park, was chosen for a donation by Persimmon Homes Thames Valley through its Community Champions scheme.

Founder Martine Walters said: “CYCALL is a voluntary-led organisation which runs adapted cycling sessions for adults and children who are unable to use a standard bike due to illness, age or disability.

“We work with people with a wide range of disabilities and we are a dementia friendly organisation. Our volunteers also act as ‘buddy’ riders on our side-by-side trikes for people who find themselves socially isolated due to age or disability.

“CYCALL has two main objectives. Firstly, we aim to increase levels of physical activity for people who find barriers to physical activity. Secondly, we aim to reduce social isolation and loneliness which is often experienced by people living with a disability or illness or through old age.

“Thank you to Persimmon Homes for this amazing grant, I am so thrilled. The money will go towards extending our fleet of adapted trikes so that we can offer our sessions to more people.”

Each month, the housebuilder donates up to £1,000 each to two groups or individuals.

Rachel Faulkner, sales director for Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “We have noticed that applications for our Community Champions scheme are on the rise, as charities continue to feel the effects of Covid-19.

“If a charity is not successful this month, I would urge them to reapply the following month. Donations have been put to such good use and we look forward to receiving nominations from anyone who is doing good work that makes a difference to their community.”
