Usually drawing thousands of people to Worthing seafront each year to watch the parade, the carnival cannot go ahead this summer due to the coronavirus situation.

Worthing Rotary Carnival Committee has emphasised that the carnival may have been cancelled for 2020 but it is not forgotten.

Rotarian Gerald Illsley, secretary of the carnival committee, said: “We want to keep our visitors, their friends, families, contributors and exhibitors all safe at this time.

“When the lockdown is over, we will be back in Worthing with an event to celebrate getting together again.

“In the meantime, we have asked all our contributors and exhibitors to send any photos, videos and publicity they would like to add to this year’s carnival webpage and we can try to put on a virtual carnival for 2020.

“And the Carnival will return again in 2021. We hope everyone will be ready and able to join us then.”
