The district has 12 Scout groups for children aged six to 14 and five Explorer units for those aged 14 to 18.

Members of all ages and the hundreds of adult leaders have been asked to place a teddy bear wearing their group scarf in a window, creating a trail around the town.

“This community spirit is one of the many skills for life we encourage within Scouting. We are also providing lots of activities and skills that the young people can be doing at home, which we have called #TheGreatIndoors.”

Bear Grylls, UK Chief Scout, announced #TheGreatIndoors activities to help children channel their ‘huge energy in a positive way’ while the schools are closed.

He said: “Whether you’re climbing Everest, or just trying to make it through to bedtime, a little planning and positive spirit will make all the difference.

“It’s not often you’ll find me talking about the great indoors but this is the exception. Try them out, look after each other, and, most of all, make this challenging time a safe and positive time.”
