Worthing singer treats hundreds of children to free concert, livestreamed from her home
A Worthing singer has treated hundreds of children to a free concert featuring songs from their favourite films, as she warms up for a return to the stage.
Vocalist Kim Bonsor has been entertaining care home residents and treating neighbours to free live concerts from her back garden during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She wanted to do something specifically for children, so organised Singalong Sunday for Kids, live streamed from her front room and now available on YouTube.
Kim said: "It had suddenly dawned on me that I had been entertaining the care homes and performing for my neighbours, etc., but hadn't done anything for the kids.
"They have had such a rough time of it and I thought they might enjoy a good singsong and it's something they can do with their families, or to give the parents a break.
"It's been proven that singing lifts mood and reduces stress and mental illness. I have done a lot of singing with my four-year- old son during the pandemic and it has definitely worked for us."
The first Singalong Sunday for Kids on February 28 featured songs from new children's films and some classics, such as Frozen, Moana, The Jungle Book, Oliver!, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Toy Story.
Kim said: "Hundreds of children watched and I had lots of positive feedback from parents saying their children were dancing and singing along.
"During the show, I did lots of 'hellos' to children and they loved hearing their names mentioned. My son enjoyed it too and he even took to the microphone for Let It Go, and stole the show as usual."
Kim is hoping to be able to work again soon but in the meantime, you can see her on YouTube.
