Worthing student grows hair for two years so it can be made into a wig for children with cancer

Kitty Chacksfield, 11, decided when she was nine that she would like to help young people with cancer.

Mum Melanie Chacksfield agreed she could grow her hair, so it could be made into a wig.

She said: “Kitty has been growing her hair for the past two years for it to be long enough to give to the Little Princess Trust. She wants her hair to help children that have lost theirs.

“Kitty is trying to raise £550, as this is the total cost of making one wig, so it would be amazing if she could achieve her goal.”

St Oscar Romero Catholic School in Goring, where Kitty is a student in year seven, has tweeted its support, saying she is ‘amazing’.

Kitty said: “I want to help children who have lost their hair to make them feel better about themselves at a time when they may feel sad or different. So giving my hair feels like the best thing I can do to help them.”

Worthing Lions was also pleased to support Kitty by donating £500, taking the total to £1,500.

Lion Lee Milner said: “Worthing Lions are very pleased and proud to be able to sponsor Kitty. An appointment has now been made for her to have her blonde locks cut completely free of charge by a hairdresser in the town.

“We should all be very proud of this young girl’s aim at such a young age. She will make a very worthy citizen and somebody who will certainly be a high achiever in years to come.”
