Neil Strowger, trust leader, said: “At BET, our game-changing ethos is built on empowering students to act for a better world. We are extremely proud of the funds that have been raised for First for Food, which shows how a single act of coming together can make a huge difference to those who need it the most.”

Students in Worthing made donations for a non-uniform day and raised £669 for Worthing Foodbank, a Trussel Trust foodbank run by Redeemer.

Julie Denyer, foodbank manager said: “That’s an amazing amount and I am so thankful for the funds. We rely on donations to run the Worthing Foodbank, which costs around £20,000 a year, so this is such a blessing to us.”

The school is passionate about helping end food poverty for children and their families.

Tom Pearson, achievement co-ordinator and school lead for fundraising, said: “Helping families in need this time of year is absolutely vital, and never more so than right now. As a proud member of the Worthing community, in addition to teaching here, I am committed to ensuring that no family goes hungry this Christmas or at any time.

“It has been a personal mission of mine to ensure the most vulnerable get fed, whether that is delivering food to our families in lockdown or contributing monetarily through this non-school uniform day. We hope that Redeemer will welcome this small contribution to support our community.”

Donations continue to come in for the fundraising campaign. Visit www.gofundme.com/f/first-for-food for more information.

Adam Whitehead, head teacher said: “At Bohunt Worthing, we pride ourselves on being involved in many activities within our community. I am immensely proud of our students and families for giving so generously.”
