Worthing’s Teville Gate House offices finished and ready for occupation

Hundreds of employees are preparing to move into their new offices next month following the completion of Teville Gate House.

The new HM Revenue and Customs building will be home to around 900 full-time employees.

Work on the five-storey building next to Worthing Railway Station started in July, 2019, and includes 70,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, awarded an ‘excellent’ rating by sustainability watchdog BREEAM.

Daniel Humphreys, leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: “I’d like to congratulate the landowners, HMRC, construction contractors as well as officers at Worthing Borough and West Sussex County Council, who have worked together to bring this important project for the town to completion, despite all the challenges faced this past year.

“This is the first big step towards an exciting regeneration of Worthing Station Approach and we are delighted that spring, 2021, brings us such a positive start for the town.”

The project was completed by construction company McLaughlin and Harvey Ltd, which was praised by the site’s owned John McGregor for its handling of the pandemic.

Conor McKenna, contracts manager at McLaughlin and Harvey Ltd, said: “We are extremely proud to complete the building now and worked hard to adapt to every new challenge.

“We developed new operating procedures in line with Government guidelines and re-programmed work to address hold ups to our supply chain caused by Covid and have received very positive feedback on all aspects of our work.”

The design team for Teville Gate House included Box Clever Consulting as development managers, MacConvilles as employers agent & quantity surveyors, CDA Architects, A10 Mechanical and Electrical, HOP Structural Engineers and ECE Planning Consultants.
