Personalised care service launched

Lend a Hand, a quality care agency run by Worthing charity Independent Lives, was recently selected as one of the preferred providers for the area from Shoreham to Littlehampton and up to Steyning.

Independent Lives, based in Liverpool Gardens, is a charity set up and led by disabled people, to create the services and support they need, their way.

Sam Pegg, care service manager, said: “The subsidiary care agency Lend a Hand was set up by Independent Lives to provide a truly personal and empowering model of care which values both staff and customers.

“Our aim is to provide a great service to more people, supporting them with quality, experienced care in the way they want. To do this, we want happy, supported and well-trained care support workers and we offer flexible contracts geared around staff needs to ensure this is possible.”

Lend a Hand is also working with Northbrook College in Worthing to provide apprenticeships, where young people can receive a wage, experience and a qualification to start or further their career in care. It is also recruiting enthusiastic and passionate care support workers, offering a range of flexible and permanent contracts and working hours.

Peter Catchpole, West Sussex cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: “What matters most to us is providing quality care to residents who need these services.

“In a consultation last year, customers told us they wanted care workers who are well trained and supported by their employers, and that the home care needs to be flexible according to their needs and wishes.”

Dr Jon Hastiem, policy and communications lead at Independent Lives, said Lend a Hand was unique in the area, as a social enterprise led by disabled people, where all profits are reinvested into the service.
