A schoolboy was crowned the winner of the Scalextric World Championship in Goring.
Vlad Howe, of Goring, set the fastest time of the day at the toy car racing event at English Martyrs Church Hall, Goring-by-Sea, on Saturday (December 19), closely followed by Worthing father and son John and Alex Ferrigno.
Some 100 people attended.
Worthing HO Racing club secretary and event organiser Andy Player said: “Vlad’s winning time was impressive as he was up against plenty of seasoned Scalextric racers.
“It really was a day when youth triumphed over experience.”
The club also showcased their Scalextric digital system on a second, larger track which featured overtaking, pit stops and refuelling.
Dozens of people took part in races on the big track during the day.
Vlad’s father said “We really enjoyed the Scalextric digital. I’ve got boxes of Scalextric in the loft. Maybe it’s time to get it down”.
Some 200 fans attended the final rounds of the Scalextric World Championship held in Goring and Harlow on Saturday.
Racers of all ages and experience tried their luck, but no-one could beat the best time of 2015 - 24.493 seconds for a ten-lap race set by 14-year-old Ted Trim from in Essex, set at the August round in Harlow.
Vlad’s time was 32.537 seconds with a Maserati Trofeo car.
John and Alex’s were 33.047 and 33.927 seconds respectively.
