Described as the driving force behind the organisation, which has been a ‘single powerful voice for economic regeneration’, Mr Swayne received a number of impressive testimonials from advocates of his work.

Receiving the lifetime achievement award, Mr Swayne, who is also a senior manager at Ricardo, in Shoreham, said: “It has been a very good year, with City Deal, in particular, which will create lots of jobs for the area.

“I would like to thank John Mitchell at the council, who is doing two jobs at the same time and the Ricardo senior management team who support me in doing my work.”

Mr Swayne’s award was the last of the night, with a range of businesses successful.
