PICTURES: Large crowds turn out for Lancing Christmas market

The event on Saturday, December 17 saw a busy line-up of stalls and entertainment in Queensway (continued below).

More than 200 people turned up for community carol singing organised by Lancing Regeneration.

Carol sheets were printed out by Frances Smith, who also asked members of the public to contribute to a food bank.

Lancing F.A donated tins and food for the cause, which Councillor Carol Albury said was ‘fantastic’.

The Lancing Brass Band gave a ‘wonderful’ performance, which was arranged thanks to Mrs Albury.

The parish market saw children’s fair ground rides and games alongside stalls selling a wide variety of products.

Entertainment was provided by Elvis.

Councillor Gloria Eveleigh said the event ‘went really well’, adding: “The weather was beautiful and there were large crowds of people milling around enjoying themselves all day.”

She said Michael Webber’s traction engine was a ‘highlight’ of the day for many children.

Around 350 children visited Santa in his grotto to receive free sweets.

Mrs Eveleigh said: “The children were absolutely awe struck by Santa, who wrote a special message the following day on social media expressing his delight at making so many children happy.”

A ‘Best Dressed Christmas Shop Window Competition’ for all shops in Lancing Village centre, voted for by members of the public, was won by the Sussex Drug Store.

Mrs Eveleigh said: “This event was a real team effort by Lancing Parish Council, who would like to express their appreciation to Worthing and Adur Council for ensuring the area stayed vehicle free.”
