IT'S official '“ Boundstone Community College is a healthy school.

Boundstone has been awarded National Healthy School status in recognition of its commitment to the health and wellbeing of pupils.

The healthy schools programme is part of a national, joint initiative from the Department of Health and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

To be eligible for the award, schools must meet the requirements of more than 40 different criteria, including personal social health education, physical activity and emotional health.

Health

Healthy and nutritious food should also be available, along with an eating area which encourages socialising.

Included in Boundstone's application were its annual health fair, where students from the college and its partner schools took part in a variety of health-related activities, the road safety awareness course for students in years 11,12 and 13, and health and safety training qualifications taken by year 10 pupils.

Sue Hawkins, Boundstone's assistant head teacher with responsibility for the Every Child Matters agenda, said the school was "extremely proud" to have been officially made a healthy school.

She added: "It is recognition of our commitment to our students, their health and well-being, and what we can do as a school to assist them in living healthy and fulfilling lives, both now and in the future".
