Advanced talks are taking place between Worthing Borough Council and local businessman Phil Duckett, to re-open the Southern Pavilion as a weddings and events venue and café.

Should planning permission be granted, the listed building will be restored to its original 1930s Art Deco design.

Mr Duckett said he was immediately interested in the building when it came available in August last year.

He said: “It’s a great, iconic building and I want to bring it back to its original glory

“I want people to walk in and it to have the wow factor.

“The aim is to reinstate a legacy for the town to be enjoyed by future generations.”

When it is not being hired out for weddings, it is hoped the venue will host other events, such as cabaret nights.

Mr Duckett said: “I think there is a market for great shows, and at the same time being somewhere to eat.

“It is a fantastic venue at a great location.”
