Pizzarelli in Broadwater Street West was shut last year after a silver car left the road and collided with the wall of the building.

But now owner James Norris has confirmed the shop will be back in business this year, with a tentative reopening date of the last week of August.

James, who grew up in Broadwater, said an insurance disagreement has caused the lengthy delay, but that work on repairing the building has finally begun.

“How long it will take depends damage to the foundations, on how far the damage went down.”

The repairs are expected to cost more than £100,000.

When the Worthing branch was shut down, some staff were relocated to the Pizzarelli branch in Hastings.

James said he expects some of the chefs to return once the Worthing shop is refurbished, making sure customers can get the same high standard of pizza as before.

The return of Pizzarelli will certainly be welcome news for Worthing pizza fans.

James added: “We get messages every day asking when we will reopen. It’s been really positive, considering we were only open for six months.

“We’re just frustrated it has taken so long and are excited to get going again.”
