Plan submitted for new homes on college site

FORTY-TWO homes could be built on land currently owned by Northbrook College after a planning application was submitted to Worthing Borough Council.

The homes, expected to be a mix of two and three bed properties, would be built on land just north of the university centre campus, in Littlehampton Road, Durrington.

Sue Dare, college principal, said: “It’s part of our estate development where we have been selling off land in order to fund some exciting new resources.

“We are going to be building new student facilities including social areas and learning areas and exhibition space.”

Should the application for the new homes be approved, building work is expected to begin by late 2015.

Some temporary buildings would be demolished to make way for the new buildings and would be replaced on the main campus.

Councillor Keith Sunderland (Northbrook ward) said his ward had ‘significant difficulties’ and there was a ‘massive need’ for housing.
